If your computer has SEVERE problems after installing Windows Vista that cripple it and render it completely unusable, you may want to do the following to correct the problem:
1. Launching Vista in Safe Mode
2. Reinstall Vista (this will perform the equivalent of a "clean install" but it will make your computer usable again!)
WARNING: Performing the above steps will ERASE the contents of your Documents & Settings folder and your Program Files Folder. If you copy your documents to any c:\XYZ directory, your stuff should be safe. About the loss of all of your programs, there's no sense in copying them since their registry settings will be gone after a clean install so you'll have to reinstall them anyway.
Before I performed the above steps, my computer was left in a completely useless state by the first Vista install, but the second install left it in pristine condition. That being said, it is a drag having to have to reinstall all my apps, but it's totally worth it to have a functional computer again!
There are NO warrantees on what you read here. If you take these steps, you do so at your own risk.
